Easy reflection in photoshop!

Header on the top :)

Wohoo! I’m going to learn you how to make reflections! But first I would like to thank you all for the feedback I have gotten on my other tutorials. Everyone of them makes me happy :) .

But let’s go over to the tutorial… this reflection technique can be applied on almost everything. Text, images, orbs and other things. I’m also planing to make a more advanced reflection tut later where I’m going to make the picture be in perspective. So… Enjoy!

Firs of all, you need to have something you want to add reflection to. It can be… well I’ve already told you that. So I just made this little banner for the occasion:

My little banner

Now, you got to duplicate this layer. I have it in one layer (the text is just a hole) but if what you are going to reflect is in two or more layers, you mus duplicate all of them (I usually merge them too).

But with the layer(s) we have duplicated, go to Edit>Transform>Flip Vertical. Now you have just flipped your whatever you are going to reflect, vertically.

Now drag that layer (holding shift so it’ll be just beneath the original layer (s). Now you have something like this i guess:

“Hard reflection”

This couldn’t be easier (I think). No simply, with our reflection layer selected, hit the «Add layer mask» button in the layers palette. I’ll show it to you…

The add layer mask button

Even drew a little red sun to show some of you where to click :) .

Now, select the gradient tool with the basic black and white gradient. Then, while holding shift (to get a straight) drag the gradient from somewhere in the bottom of the image (or even below) and up. It can take some times before you are satisfied, so just click Ctrl+Z and do it again until you like what you have ;)

Here is mine:

I’m finished! U?

Of course you can apply the effect on other things as I said earlier. Here are some examples:

If you’re not TO stunned you can ofcourse write a comment and tell me your opinion ;)
